Why do women's dress shoes buckle on the outside, and not on the inside of ankle?

I always thought it was mostly because when the buckle is decorative it%26#039;s so it%26#039;s easily visible.

Why do women%26#039;s dress shoes buckle on the outside, and not on the inside of ankle?
So you don%26#039;t rub your buckles together of you are standing up with your feet close, sitting with your feet together or while walking.
Reply:kuz they are easier to buckle that way

they show

and if ur feet are close to each other they dont hit each other...kuz that would be painful! =]
Reply:Because most of womens fashions come from upper class women long ago. At that time they had ladies who would dress them. That is why shirts button different and most dresses and bra work in back. If you would like me to come by and help you buckle your shoes gladly!
Reply:So you don%26#039;t get them mixed up. :)
Reply:so decorative purposes
Reply:so they wont rub on your feet when your walking.
Reply:it may also have something to do with who actually buckled them. Women%26#039;s shirts button on the opposite side from men%26#039;s, because for a while, upper class women had attendants to help them with dressing. It%26#039;s easier for someone else to work on the outside of your foot than for yourself, but if you were lacing or buckling your own, you%26#039;d want it closer to the inside or on top.
